Building large environments

Hi, I am currently creating my domain and find my work uses many of the same geometry, for example, a tree or architectural detail. Is using instances out of Blender 2.8 a good way to optimize for High Fidelity and keep my scene size lower?

I would say yes. It will load faster, if repetitive object are separated.
Having the common textures non-embeded (if you store on a web server instead of the asset server) is maybe also another thing that can be done.
You can bake all that using the oven too.
