Constructive Criticism

Here’s some constructive criticism.
There’s a bug in the system spamming the logs. You can only stay in High Fidelity for a certain amount of time before your frame rates crash and you have to restart. After leaving some domains the avatars are not removed. You continues to see avatars in the next domain from the domain before.
As for the features I was talking about earlier. People have been begging for some way two stream video or audio into high fidelity. Someone to use it for listening to music or watching YouTube videos. Someone to use it to give presentations. it would work better if this is built into High Fidelity rather than a app on the market place. But that’s not going to happen and we’ve been asking for it for a long time. The browser shows up is a cell phone making the browser worthless. The browser should be changed to a fully functioning browser. Others have been complaining about this too. Any actions on this. Absolutely not. So you got your constructive criticism. Is anything going to happen about it. Like I said before nobody seems to care and nothing gets done. And people have left because these features haven’t been added in. And people are leaving because your system is buggy.

High Fidelity not going out of business?

While I can live with / work around the bugs (we’re still in beta after all ),
I’d totally welcome an easy method of streaming music and/or videos synchronized for everyone inworld!
IMHO this would add a lot to the “social value” of HiFi, as (almost) nothing can bring people closer together than the shared experience of dancing with each other or watching a movie or a sports game in good company :sunglasses:
:man_dancing::dancer: :tv: :soccer: :football:

It already works…
icecast… using Vorbis ogg.
(icecast is open source.)

That’s wonderful news!
Thank you very much :purple_heart:

Is there a tutorial somewhere showing an enthusiastic noob like me how to make this actually work?
(where do I download what, how are soundfiles addressed, how do I bring it inworld, etc.)

And can I also use it to stream music independent of my individual speech output?
(i.e. I do not want my avatar “singing” the music I’m streaming, but I’d rather rez an entity to do so - which doesn’t mess with my avatars blendshapes)

http://icecast.org/

Icecast is a streaming media (audio/video) server which currently supports Ogg (Vorbis and Theora), Opus, WebM and MP3 streams.
It can be used to create an Internet radio station or a privately running jukebox and many things in between. It is very versatile in that new formats can be added relatively easily and supports open standards for communication and interaction.

(Note that High Fidelity plays only the ogg streaming format.)

So you can play such stream to people present on you domain synchronouly using a web entity.
You can also play any existing source of icecast stream (Ogg Vorbis), you can find some here: http://dir.xiph.org/
(Download the M3U file, open it with notepad, you will found the url to use for your web entity inside it.)

I’m not sure if the stream will always automatically start. To solve that, simply make a web page and use the HTML5 functionality to play your stream (using the auto-play).

Here a solution to play music on your domain in a synchronous way.
This supports Youtube (long tracks, over 1h) and Icecast (ogg)

I put the code online for free… See details here:
https://vankh.bashora.com/2017/09/20/play-music-on-your-high-fidelity-domain/

You can see one instance working here: http://metaverse.bashora.com/scripts/jukebox/
