High Fidelity Interface crashes when starting up

#21

Same here - crash before login on Win7 - and I cant find any log.
Better if it didn’t try to open FULL SCREEN (on my 2 monitor 1920x1200 system) on the primary monitor orientated PORTRAIT .

I too am crashing on startup Windows 7 Pro. 6.1.7601 service pack 1 (with some history)
I originally built my own interface and was logging in 2 months ago, something broke and I was crashing on startup from then on.
I downloaded the Windows installer when it came out, and getting the same crash on startup. My graphics geforce was “Geforce Experience has a problem and needs to close” So I waited until I got the geforce fixed, its now fixed and no longer faulting, however Interface still crashes on startup.
I have now removed Qt, and all paths I put in to try to remove conflicts, uninstalled and deleted all hifi components (sys32, users/owner/appdata/roaming, users/owner/appdata/local) that I could find, removed script folder. and reinstalled application, still no good.
I have since been logging in on a laptop without issue while I wait for the video issue to be fixed, now its fixed and I still have no answers, I really hope someone can help.
interface log file and event viewer log posted here http://pastebin.com/m80mJhd6

Thanks

Hi @Adrian the best place (for the moment) to put in bugs that you are seeing is in github https://github.com/highfidelity/hifi/issues?labels=Windows&page=1&state=open

Hi @chris
Thanks for the reply.
My main concern is that this is possibly not a bug, it was working on this machine some time ago, and when I load the build that it was last working on, it doesnt work anymore, which may mean I have made some change to my computer to stop it from working now.

I am hesitant to file this as a bug yet because its probably unique to my setup, I was just hoping someone might recognize the situation from the logs, maybe I need to remove all the stuff I put in when I was compiling from source, zlib and stuff, I want to try all options before I think about rolling my system back to a previous restore point (last resort).
Still hoping for some suggestions.
This line may or may not help “Exception code: 0xc0000005”

Have you already downloaded the new dependencies? A few were added some time ago.

Which dependencies? I am not building, I am using the downloaded Windows installer.

@Adrian try removing your Interface.ini file and relaunching. You can find them.

PC - C:\Users[username]\AppData\Roaming\High Fidelity
MAC - ~/.config/highfidelity.io/

Ok thanks, I tried that, still the same.

Correction: I deleted the file and was finally able to sign in, though everything is at very slow response, so much so that I thought it had frozen up. I’m looking at voxels appearing now.

@Adrian and @BluemanSteele I emailed this to the Alpha group but will also put it in the forum.

I mentioned last week about our system called Worklist. Worklist allows us to work with external contractor on jobs, it is an extremely powerful system that we all can use.

I thought a good use for it would be to debug and fix the Windows 7 crashing that a good number of you are having. I have therefore put up two Worklist jobs:
Clearly documenting the crash: https://worklist.net/19625
Fixing the issue: https://worklist.net/19626
Feel free to go in and put a bid in for the first part to this job.

@chris, your talent is formidable and your intellect is clear. But I must do as my friend does and say
"tell me like I"m 5."
It’s a compliment that you feel you feel I would understand this high level of development. I’m humbly here as a user and an early adopter.

Though I promise that if you learn to take advantage of my ignorance, it will help High Fidelity get to a billion people.

Thought I would add something after seeing others posting.
My Windows 7 crash on launch, crashes at different places each time, if I launch a new version it gets all the way thru to the login screen then crashes, if I try again it only gets about 8 lines into launch (about 1 second) and stops.
If I restart the computer and launch it goes about 5 seconds, or about halfway to the login screen then stops.

Main point being, it doesnt stop at exactly the same place each time.
if I delete the Interface.ini it doesnt get replaced.
I have tried setting everything in the ini file to false, that lets it go all the way to the login screen the stops (the first time) then next time it will stop almost immediately (1-3 seconds).

My log looks almost the same as Chav’s

Hi everyone, just got the invite today.

I had problems with downloading the interface due to using symbols in the password, but sorted that.
After downloading i kept on crashing trying to start up on windows 7

For what took ages trying to solve the problem, and from looking through the posts here… I eventually tried what MarcelEdward had done and just plugged in my webcam and that solved the problem for me…

Thanks Marcel

Mine also crashes when starting up…So did anyone else here fix their problems as this post is relatively old? I didn’t want to start a new post for a similar problem.
http://gyazo.com/408ca30c78fe63b17b29665a0a6d171b Is the crash log… Was pretty hyped for this for a while, really want to get in and start uploading things.

@Arunnejiro , do you have USB devices plugged in other than keyboard/mouse and headset? If so, unplug some and see if that helps.

No, I even unplugged my speakers, and plugged in a headset.
