Interface client crashing on connect (mac Build 906)

#1

Got the {you need to upgrade to the new build} popup this morning and downloaded mac build 906.
When I start it, I see a the normal empty scene with a NOT CONNECTED message added in the window title. Then I see desktop…

Running Mavericks on an older iMac
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac7,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 2

its been fine (although I see most avatars as cutouts) until this build…
The crash report is literally pages and pages of stuff I’m sure Apple doesn’t want to see, but I’m happy to share it with anyone interested…

Am I alone?? anyone else get smacked by this or have any ideas why???
Ive reverted back to build 897 ( the one I last D’Ld for the office meet up) and everything seems fine again…

#2

Have you taken a look at the log file?

#3

There isn’t a lot of info there…
After trying to launch build 906 5 or 6 times… Most of the log files just end with the following lines…

[2014-08-20T18:18:50] Application title set to: dAo @ sandbox.highfidelity.io (NOT CONNECTED) (build 906)
[2014-08-20T18:18:50] Displaying QWebView for OAuth authorization at “https://data.highfidelity.io/oauth/authorize?client_id=6e430d2c6dd845a2edf2a2cf9f9debff2517684c001aad5e87db252a7ad58a30&response_type=code&state=7e83ddc3-564d-4743-813d-0a0ce769dcce&redirect_uri=https://sandbox.highfidelity.io:40101/oauth

Only once does the log show anything different after that…

don’t know if that helps…

Yeah, nothing listed there is world ending stuff that would cause a crash, it’s just not finding some things… one thing I did notice is this though:

[2014-08-21T10:41:17] “Error downloading http://public.highfidelity.io/models/heads/Carl_TestShader/thro1_head_d.jpg - server replied: Not Found”

The texture for Carl_Test Shader isn’t in that folder, so it looks like it moved. uploads now put textures in a separate texture folder, the actual path to that texture is now:

http://highfidelity-public.s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/models/heads/Carl_TestShader/textures/thro1_head_d.jpg

and outfit16.jpg for the ron_standing avatar is in:

http://highfidelity-public.s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/models/skeletons/ron_standing/textures/outfit16.jpg

Just for giggles, try logging in with the client that’s not crashing you and changing you avatar to the default avatar and see if you can log in with the crashing client and see if it doesn’t crash. If not, you can then re-select the avatar head and skeleton you want and whatever settings you have now will be updated to current…

Just a thought… let us know how it turns out.

OOOo yay.

That did the trick

Awesome, to be honest, I didn’t think it would work because I didn’t think just not finding a texture would cause a crash, but apparently with avatars, the current versions do. I smell a worklist job to make sure any avatar load errors on init default to the standard avatar (which is what it should do, and was doing before, at least in the windows build.). It was strange, because I just happened to glance close enough to that url to realize that it was different (by just 1 folder) which seemed a bit weird to me, but we’re in alpha, and stuff like that is bound to change.

Glad I was able to clear that up for ya :sunny:
