Interface Display Error

#1

Hello,
I was trying to use High Fidelity on my desktop PC and explore some domains, but I’m not able to load anything. I installed latest version of the interface v4319,on my desktop PC Windows 10 (64 bit) and after launching the interface this all what I get (image below)

Anyone knows the reason? I was thinking that maybe it’s a router problem, but I’m able to load content of a domain from my laptop, which uses the same connection at home but in wireless…probably something due to Ethernet?

PC specs:
Intel i7 3770k 3.9ghz
GPU nvidia geforce 970
RAM 16 gb

Waiting for your replies!
Thanks,
Stefano.

Try Opening Developer>Stats to see what the status currently is.

After that, press Developer>Logs and check what the logs print and check the last few lines on what it shows.

#3

Domain not updated and run on the old server code and the client is already using new server code ?

#4

@Richardus.Raymaker the domain should be updated because I have the issue with all the domains…

@Menithal this is what I get from log, last rows…do you have any idea of what’s the problem?

I am seeing alot of SSL related errors in the log file.

Are simply running the build of the website, or have you compiled your own build?

What I find odd is that the first avatar should load instantly as it is a locally loaded one. I think the answer might actually be earlier in the logs, could it be possible for you to put the full logs on a paste bin or something?

#6

@Menithal as requested the full log. Actually I am simply running any website/domain from interface, did not touch anything.

http://pastebin.com/pjCxK72J

#7

Unfortunately I’ve no idea on this one. Logging seems sound with the exception of the SSL errors, while logging in isnt required for most domains. Maybe one of the devs should help with this.

What did it say on your screen when you enabled stats ? Was servers = 0?

If so it is connectivity (which it seems to be, red lines on the sides.). When you first starter did you see popups on LODs being reduced? Check under Settings > LOD

Another thing you could try is the following

First Goto
%LOCALAPPDATA%\High Fidelity

Delete the Interface folder inside it

Goto your
%APPDATA%\High Fidelity

Delete the Interface.ini file .

Restart High Fidelity.

#8

If you can login do so and show us a screenshot of the domain “sandbox” if possible.
If you can not login, try making a fresh account just to test this error.

#9

I loaded 4319 on a different computer and ended up with the login pane. Entered my credentials and it just stays stuck there (verified they are valid). I verified the interface app is not blocked by a firewall rule.

and then this mess of errors:

[03/03 14:41:44] [WARNING] QSslSocket: cannot call unresolved function SSL_CTX_new

I am going to fully uninstall all remnants of HF and try again.

Uninstalled HF, also found and old stack manager entry, uninstalled that, reinstalled, no difference. I get stuck here on this machine. Enter credentials and nothing more than the little progress lights wink forever. I can click on the ‘Password?’ or ‘Register’ link and they navigate to the respective WEB pages. The login is not communicating to your servers.

I closed the login pane and tried to connect to different domains. Nothing

Looks like interface is trying to bind to openssl v23? Doesn’t that block using the stronger tls protocols?

#10

High Fidelity devs, you have an installer bug.

On the computer in which interface and the domain controller work for me, I have this installed:

ssleay32 1.0.2.5 372.50 KB (381,440 bytes) 12/4/2015 12:01 AM The OpenSSL Project, http://www.openssl.org/ c:\program files\high fidelity\ssleay32.dll

On the other computer where I installed 4319 nice and fresh, that module is not installed. This is why it is not working for some and works for others. If an earlier installer loaded up the opensl module, 4319 will work. Otherwise, not. @chris

#11

We are linking OpenSSL statically now, so that DLL should no longer be required. That is why it was recently removed from the installer.

I’ll work through a fresh install now on a machine here to see if/where it’s getting stuck.

#12

Something did not link statically correctly.
[03/03 14:41:44] [WARNING] QSslSocket: cannot call unresolved function SSLv23_client_method
[03/03 14:41:44] [WARNING] QSslSocket: cannot call unresolved function SSL_CTX_new
[03/03 14:41:44] [WARNING] QSslSocket: cannot call unresolved function SSL_library_init

I’m removing the DLL from the working version to see if that makes the working case fail.

#13

You shouldn’t need to login to connect to the default place “alpha” which is where you’ll go when you first open Interface. You can close that long window with the X. If you still can’t get to the alpha domain, send me your full log (copied from hifi-log.txt which you can reveal with View Log File) and we’ll see where it’s getting stuck.

#14

I’m continuing to investigate but I did just confirm on a machine here that while I see the

QSslSocket: cannot call unresolved function

errors I am able to login without issue (without the dll present as is the case with a fresh install).

#15

Yes, I know, just doing an exhaustive QA test. Where should I send the logs?

#16

Pastebin them and post a link here or email them to birarda [AT] highfidelity.com

#17

Sending, meanwhile:
[03/03 17:27:18] [DEBUG] Called LoadAddress with address “alpha”

#18

There is definitely an issue here that is thanks to Qt attempting to itself use OpenSSL while we also need to directly use it.

@Balpien.Hammerer when you get that message does it fail to go to the place or those simply print to the log?

#19

It fails to go to the location. The only place that works is localhost. Basically any of the SSL coms to HF are blocked.

Alright, rather than deal with figuring out where/why Qt is finding OpenSSL and which incompatible version it is I’ll just re-instate manual install of those DLLs. This way we know that Qt will definitely find OpenSSL and that it will be a compatible version.

I’ve put up a PR for this here - https://github.com/highfidelity/hifi/pull/7245. I’ll test it on my machine but it would be great @Balpien.Hammerer if you could test as well.

I used Process Explorer to discover that on my machine here even without OpenSSL in the system folder or beside the binary it was found in a different application’s folder in Program Files. That is why I’m not getting the same behaviour you are seeing.
