When im at @judas region. interface.exe is crashing everytime when you fly a bit around the building area hifi://robotdolly/8019.39,195.069,8059.86 . getting this error back from windows. But interface.xex got less stable the last 100 builds i think, its crashing faster and the problem is not clear.

Turn off metavoxels. Developer>Render>Metavoxels and see how that goes

#3

Looks indeed that the metavoxels grawled out of some pumpkin again and crashing the viewer. It works fine with metavoxels disabled.

Interface.exe is crashing with build 1484 when you Teleport from sandbox to my domain that is at that moment complete offline because windows update.

Here we go again folks. , just back from a week travelling and on updating the Interface.exe to win 1515 I have it crashing on start up every time on Windows 8.1. Reverting to, e.g., Win 1409 (last installed I had handy on my desktop) fixes the crash.

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: interface.exe
Application Version: 0.0.0.0
Application Timestamp: 5474ed45
Fault Module Name: Qt5Multimedia.dll

The console log line immediately before the crash is about audio (again) though that may e coincidental…

I pinned it down to between Win 1427 which runs and Win 1435 which does the APPCRASH, as do all subsequent version I have tried.

Most of the version numbers between 1427 and 1435 do not seem to be present I the download web page, so 1435 might be the following Windows release after 1427 - or close enough anyway. Over to you HiFi folks.

#14

Hi @Ai_Austin are you on the domain Alpha when you crash? if so can you go to Sandbox and see if it is still crashing. We have a known issue with some models on Windows. If you are on your own domain can you still go to Sandbox

#15

I was on hifi://Vue @chris… our own domain. Oddly I have some systems working and some not… It may be differences in what is installed, audio hardware and drivers and if Rift is on the system

#16

I used Win 1427 (working) to move to hifi://Sandbox, then updated to Win 1515 again and restarted and I get the same crash

I tried once more - this time with Win 1574. First I uninstalled the last crashing version, deleted the user appdata in roaming and local and installed 1574. Still crashes.

If I install Win 1427 it works. If I install 1435 (or anything later) it crashes. I can switch back and forth between installing the first and it working and installing the (next) later one and it crashing

This is a Windows 8.1 system with Oculus Rift on it. I had an issue earlier with a similar Windows 7 system on which I used to have my Rift DK2 until the issue was fixed by High Fidelity. But it seems to have come back and stuck around for a long time now.

I am totally stuck and cannot get into the Interface with my Rift equipped system (even when its off) and have not been able to since version 1427.

Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: interface.exe
Application Version: 0.0.0.0
Application Timestamp: 54821e8f
Fault Module Name: Qt5Multimedia.dll

last message in console windows before crash, as usual, is

[DEBUG] [12/08 16:16:34] Unable to set up audio input because of a problem with input format.

Any advice on how to clean up to get this unstuck?

Hi @Ai_Austin could we setup a call and run through your issue?

[THIS POST IS CORRECTED TO SAY THE ISSUE IS LACK OF ANY AUDIO INPUT, NOT AUDIO OUTPUT. Note its still the case that I have other similar systems without any audio input that work with the Interface all along. So something happens when the Oculus Rift or some other item is installed]

@Chris was a super hero this morning and was just on my system with me, very early in California time, via Skype and join.me screen sharing. Of course… everything worked

I thought it must be @Chris 's magic fingers… anyway we got the logs of the working setup and a log of an example failure as I had had right up to the call. @Chris has all those logs now.

Then I unplugged my USB headset after the Skype call, and on launched the Interface immediately crashed the same way as before.

So now I recall we saw this issue some time ago after a change in the area of the audio handling in the Interface, and that got fixed at some point. The problem being that, on a system on which an Oculus Rift has been installed and maybe other situations, if a system has no audio INPUT device (via 3.5mm jack or USB) attached the crash occurs, if there is ANY audio INPUT attached then it works. Remember this is mic or similar we are talking about not the hardware audio interface and drivers, those are present all along.

So the issue that issue must have been reintroduced between 1425 and 1437 is that on some systems (e.g. when a Rift has been installed at any time) if the user has NO SOUND INPUT attached (like a microphone of some kind) the crash occurs. I think the HiFi developer folks have fixed this before, but some change between win 1427 and win 1437 (which actually may be the very next win release) reintroduced the issue.

Hi @Ai_Austin , that is great that we have pinpointed the issue. Another question. Does that machine have an internal mic and speaker?
