Logging capabilities of High Fidelity hosted worlds and other such things

#1

Hi Gang,

New here, and like many I come from a Unity background (hope Unity isn’t a bad word around here). I’m poking around at the capabilities at HF right now, and I’m curious about the logging capabilities of a hosted world via HF. In my case I will be attempting to full body track two Avatars interacting in a Social VR setting using Vive trackers (fortunately I see quite a bit of discussion about full body tracking here on the forum), and as this will be a research tool, robust logging will be necessary. I’m still poring over the API docs, but just thought I would pop by and say hi and ask about logging, and as whether or not the HF API is, generally speaking, mature to the extent that it could be to create a research tool. And I know the latter part of that question is a bit vague as that is often a function of who is using the tool and how well they use it.

But, at the very least, hi everybody!

Hello!

While I cannot address your question directly, I will suggest that perhaps you and George Deac should meet. He can often be found in hifi//avreng (his domain). He’s insightful and has, perhaps, overlapping interests.

Best wishes in your search!

Jason

By “logging” do you mean recording of avatar movements?

If so, have a look at the “Recording” API. An example of its use (and the play back of recordings) is provided in the “Avatar Recording and Playback” Marketplace app: https://highfidelity.com/marketplace/items/27008ad4-292e-40be-80d5-0ebdcf2740fa The code for this app and playback script can be found at: https://github.com/highfidelity/hifi/tree/master/unpublishedScripts/marketplace/record

Thanks David. I really appreciate the tip. I’ll check out that API — sounds like it might be exactly what I am looking for.
