Nametags.js - display names above avatars' heads

#1

Run the following script and display names will be displayed above avatars’ heads:

For the avatars of people who have set their display names, that is.

UPDATE, 18 Mar 2016:

  • Added menu item, View > Nametags, shortcut Ctrl+N, that toggles nametags on/off

#2

Known problem: The text displayed is not very legible; it looks “bloated”. I’ve submitted a PR that improves this: https://github.com/highfidelity/hifi/pull/7336

To be implemented: Menu item and shortcut key that toggles display of nametags on/off.

Comments? Wishes?

Wasn’t that fix mainstreamed?

@Balpien.Hammerer There was a fix to text3d recently to make it visible again: https://github.com/highfidelity/hifi/pull/7256 whereas my PR addresses the now overly fat characters.

UPDATE: Added menu item, View > Nametags, shortcut Ctrl+N, that toggles nametags on/off.

#6

Updates:

  • Fade nametags with distance.
  • Reduce size of nametags with distance.

#7

Update: Added tablet/toolbar button that toggles display of nametags on/off.

#8

Updates:

  • Use session display name for nametag text; the same as displayed in the “People” dialog (i.e., “anonymous” if no display name set, and number appended if necessary to make unique).
  • Anchor nametags to avatars so that they move with the avatar more smoothly.
  • Report script version in program log.
