Rendering Improvement

#21

Not absolutely sure… Cineon is a throwback to film formats but it would be a good guess the principles used in tone mapping in HR are based on the same concepts. I think the basic premise is that we are dealing with light and not color values.

Updated version of the script, using preload and unload, to restore default settings, when an user go.
(thank you @thoys)

(function(){

	var RenderAdv = function(){

    };

    RenderAdv.prototype = {

        preload: function(entityID) {

			//########## RENDERING SETTINGS ############
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("Bloom").enabled = true;
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("Bloom").intensity = 1;
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("BloomThreshold").threshold = 0;
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("Bloom").size = 0.7;
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("ToneMapping").enable = true;
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("ToneMapping").curve = 3;
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("ToneMapping").exposure = -0.2;
        },

		unload: function(entityID) {
			//############# RESTORE RENDER SETTINGS #############
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("Bloom").enabled = false;
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("Bloom").intensity = 0;
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("Bloom").threshold = 0;
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("Bloom").size = 0.25;
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("ToneMapping").enable = true;
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("ToneMapping").curve = 1;
			Render.getConfig("RenderMainView").getConfig("ToneMapping").exposure = 0;
    }};
	return new RenderAdv();
 })

We’re all in agreement that the tonemapping can be improved, and I’ve confirmed that there are plans to do it as soon as possible, but good tonemapping is just as technical as bloom. When we do expose it we want it to be in the best possible way that makes your life easiest, and there’s still work to be done before we get there!

Just testing your script. The black text is hard to read.
Is it possible to have the white or cream white ?

Love the “Filmic” tone mapping. looks nice on my object i test. WIsh high fidelity used that tone mapping default. the colors are not so flat and washed out in filmic. Looks more like (uhmm, Secondlife) Or it’s the exposure setting + filmic. Did a relog to reset settings. now RGB looks better. lol

It would be interesting todo a test with more people. Just default setting and then change it to RGB. (what default setting high fidelity use ? the wrong sRGB ?) The colors are much better with RGB. the others are flat and washed out.

The results are a bit confusing for me. other domain it looks not good at all.

Still good tool !
